Venus and Jupiter Tonight (with the Moon last week)

I took this photo off my front porch just after 7 PM tonight.  Jennifer and I have been watching the conjunction of Venus and Jupiter in the early evening sky over the past few weeks.  They will actually be at their closest in the sky tomorrow night.  But it will be cloudy and rainy here by then.  Tonight was the only clear sky Twin Oaks will see for the rest of this week.  So, I took advantage of the beautiful sunset sky to snap this simple shot of the two of them in close proximity.  Though they appear close from this perspective they are, in fact, 400 million miles apart.

Last Wednesday, the Moon joined them in the sky.  We were over at my parents house having dinner and by the time we got settled back at home it was past dark.  I snapped a rather unimpressive photo of them anyway.  For clarity I have included a screen shot from my Star Chart App showing the three of them about the same time.  The three brightest objects in the Earth's night sky were all together, sort of.  Pretty cool stuff!  Click here to see images of them from places all across our planet.
