Lush and green despite the recent intense heat and lack of rain.


The nearby yarrow is doing splendidly.

For a long time I have admired the PBS series Frontline for its outstanding reporting.  On May 1, the program aired the second-half of a huge four-hour documentary on the origins the Great Recession entitled Money, Power, and Wall Street .  The situation obsessed me and my blog posts back in 2008 – 2009.  Economically, nothing compares to it in my lifetime.  In this post I will attempt to summarize this superb four-part Frontline . Eyes Wide Shut at 20

The film opens with a rather abrupt shot of Alice (Nicole Kidman) undressing.  Several elements in this shot make it a perfect introduction to Eyes Wide Shut .  The two rackets in the corner suggest a couple.  The two red drapes reflected in the mirror announce the mirroring and coupling that will be explored throughout the film.  Of course, the immediate undressing and revealing of Alice's naked body suggests the film itself is going to be a kind of intimate revelation.
