"Back by Easter" - Unfit to Serve

WTF?!!

I am trying to write a blog post about something fun and then THIS happens.

Donald Trump says he wants to see Americans all back to work by Easter.  That's 19 days from today.  Surely someone on his staff has pointed out the condition this country will inevitably be in by that time.  But, as usual, I'm sure he won't listen to them.

Well, he will hear the backlash to this.  It has to be to single most incompetent, out-of-touch with reality, statement of his administration.  And that's really saying something.

As the excellent map provided by the good folks at Johns Hopkins University clearly shows, we are only now entering the inevitable exponential growth of COVID-19.  Notice the significant uptick in number of cases in the US.
The John Hopkins University data for COVID-19 in America today.  There is no data regarding recoveries at this time, most likely because virtually everyone who has tested positive in the US has not had time to recover yet.

I wrote earlier that I would be watching the death numbers and if they were anywhere between 600-1,000 by the end of March then I would become even more cautious than I was before.  That is now my plan, as we hit 600 today with a week still left to go.  Luckily, I don't have a job to report to when Trump tells everyone to get back to work.

COVID-19 is just getting started in America.  One week ago the total number of cases in the US stood at 6,411.  Today, as of this post, we are at 49,768.  In another two weeks that number will likely be at least 120,000.  By Easter there will be around 3,000 Americans dead or dying from the virus.  Time to go back to work!

This reckless negligence and refusal to relate to reality is a clearer sign than any other that Trump is living in a dreamworld.  We cannot afford to have a man like this in charge of what will be the most devastating health crisis to face this nation in over 100 years.

I don't know how anyone can defend what Trump said today.  I don't know how anyone can believe what he said today is the sign of the leadership this country desperately needs right now.  Undoubtedly, millions will see his statement as a ray of hope.  My hope is that the vast majority of Americans will take what he said today seriously and look closely at how this man is handling this situation.

Stable genius?  Get this pathetic excuse for a human mind out of office.  The easiest way to do that would be for the spineless GOP to get behind Vice-President Pence and invoke the Section 4 of the 25th Amendment.   I'm no fan of Pence either but anybody would be better than a fool shouting "let's get back to work" as thousands of Americans are about to die.

I don't know which troubles me more right now - the virus, the economy, Trump, or the cowardly gutless GOP members of congress who are just watching this train wreck of a presidency roll on...

Invoke the 25th.  Just do it.  We are in a crisis.  We need a leader who can at least see that much.
